Casino Branding and Marketing Strategies

How to create a brand and engage more players

One of the largest industries in the United States is the casino industry because you can profit millions of dollars from this business because of its high demand. An article on Citizenlink revealed that 86% of Americans report having gambled at least once during their lives; and about 46% of legal-aged adults gamble in casinos. Imagine getting almost half of the adult population to play in your casino – that could mean not only millions but billions of dollars. In fact, the casino market of the Las Vegas Strip has an annual revenue of 6.207 billion dollars in 2012, based on the statistics published by the American Gaming Association.

Write What You Know?

what_you_know

One of my favorite books on writing (aptly named “On Writing“) is written by Stephen King and in that book he regurgitates and then chews on one of the most common rules for writing; write what you know.

First time I read it it made a helluva lot of sense. I mean, it does sound damn difficult to write about space when you have spent all of your life with your feet planted firmly on the ground. Yet, if you can’t write about what you like, doesn’t it take away the fun of it? The reason you write is because it’s fun, right? Then it doesn’t make sense to write about accounting or plumbing (because honestly that doesn’t sound very exciting for a plot).

How to increase your productivity

productivity_long_hours

(Well you could probably do something more productive than reading this very long post so…)

Yeah, this is another installment in my humble advice series. I call it humble because I believe someone’s about to comment “who the fuck are you to give people advice about this and that, you don’t know jack shit!” but maybe that’s just some small spark of internet forum fear (people seem to find it easier to be rude on the internet than face to face, gee, I wonder why?).

Your appearance matters

ryan_gosling-crazy_stupid_love-1

It does. You betcha.

It doesn’t matter if you dress sharply, look sloppy, smell bad, forget your tie when everybody else has one, pick your nose in meetings, and so on – it WILL make an impact. Someone might think, hmmm…this guy/ girl is…weird, smelly, good-looking, seems to be in control, elegant, ugly, skinny, fat, interesting or disgusting. People will think something and you can affect what they think of you. If you think you can’t, you’re in trouble.

Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity

Here are some interesting print concepts from the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. I found them at Ads of the world Cannes Lions Winners page. The simplicity of the IKEA Fixed prices concept and the Gillette Take It All Off is really appealing to me and the Old Spice man ad is a classic reinvented in print form. Agency for Old Spice is Wieden+Kennedy, Gillette ad is done by BBDO, and IKEA ad is created by TBWA.

Starbucks VIA Ready Brew

Starbucks is a brand that boggles my mind. I know I pay too much for their coffee, but it’s too good, the place is too cosy, the blueberry muffins too good and I like their logo too much( !) to miss out on. Sadly there are no Starbucks in Malta but they recently started to import Starbucks instant coffee called VIA Ready Brew which is surprisingly good for an instant coffee and at least gives both me and Lenah the Starbucks feeling.
